Tigers match abandoned
A good sized crowd was deprived of watching any play in the Twenty20 cricket match between Tasmania and Victoria at Hobart's Bellerive Oval. A crowd of at least 4000 was already in the ground prior to the start and others were turned away after steady drizzle fell. The game was scheduled to start at 4pm local time, but the match was abandoned an hour later. Officials believed the fixture would have attracted at least 5000 people had it gone ahead. Each team picked up one point. It was the Tigers' first point following an earlier loss to Queensland. Victoria moved to three points, following an earlier win over South Australia. Tasmania was scheduled to play its next game on Sunday in Hobart with more showers forecast over the weekend, though they were expected to clear sometime on Sunday. Victoria will play its first home game of this season's tournament on Sunday against Queensland at the MCG. |
