The tail wags for the Blues
An unbeaten 40-run eighth-wicket stand has helped New South Wales to a competitive 7-159 in their KFC Twenty20 Big Bash encounter with Western Australia at ANZ Stadium.
David Warner (17) and Scott Coyte (28) rescued the Blues with the latter particularly damaging - consecutive sixes in the final over the highlight.
Brett Dorey (2-23) and Aaron Heal (2-28) were the pick of the bowlers for the visitors.
The Blues made a fast start before Daniel Smith was caught spectacularly at mid-off by Sean Ervine to hand Dorey the early breakthrough.
Brad Haddin (6) was the next man to fall in the fourth over when Danny McLauchlan cut through his defences to leave the hosts at 2-25.
When impressive rookie Steven Smith fell for a well-played 33 from 26 deliveries the Blues found themselves in trouble at 4-68 at the midway point.
Skipper Simon Katich (28) set about rescuing the innings before dispatching a juicy full-toss straight to Theo Doropoulos at cover to give Heal his second scalp, leaving the Blues 6-109 in the 15th over in the process.
Things went from bad to worse when Dorey took a spectacular grab off his own bowling to dismiss Nathan Hauritz (7) before Warner and Coyte combined to salvage the innings.
