Bushrangers cruise to victory against the Bulls

The Victorian Bushrangers made the perfect start to their KFC t20 Big Bash title defence thanks to a 33 run victory over the Queensland Bulls in front of almost 30,000 at the MCG.

Aaron Finch and Brad Hodge led the way for the home side smashing 98 runs during a quick fire opening stand which was only ended by the Bulls in the 11th over by Ben Cutting who halted a stunning display of power hitting by two of Australiaís best t20 players.

Having won the toss the Bushrangers batsman enjoyed trouble free batting as the home side reached a total of 188-4 against a Bulls line-up which was dispatched to all parts of the MCG.

Finch lead the way with a trailblazing 58 which came from just 38 deliveries, his innings included 8 fours and 2 massive sixes which thrilled the crowd as they sailed high over the boundary ropes.

Opening partner Hodge played a supporting role but he still managed to score 39 runs before he was caught by Nathan Reardon at the start of Chris Simpsonís second over.

Despite the loss of Finch and Hodge in the space of 5 balls the Bushrangers didnít panic as Matthew Wade and David Hussey () continued the blitz by adding another 38 runs in the space of 3.3 overs before Wade (19) was dismissed by Michael Neser.

Bushrangers skipper Cameron White came to the creased and added another 24 runs in another impressive partnership with Hussey (42) as the pair steered the home side to an impressive total.

Faced with a run chase of 189 the Bulls innings never really recovered from losing openers Michael Lumb (6) and Chris Simpson (5) inside the first three overs.

Although big hitting Lee Carseldine remained at the crease throughout the Bulls inning his 35 from 36 deliveries summed up the visitors run chase which never really got going.

James Hopes (36) and Chris Lynn (31) also failed to push on after playing themselves in as the Bulls slumped to a heavy defeat as the Bushrangers maintained their undefeated record at the MCG which now stands at 10 games.
