Prior smashes half century to rescue the Vics

Ashes winner Matthew Prior was in scintillating form for the DEC Bushrangers smashing 51 on his debut for the Vics against the Tasmanian Tigers at the Bellerive Oval.

Prior, who scored a century at the SCG against Australia during the 5th Test continued his fine form by smashing a 28 ball half century to help the Bushrangers reach 107-8.

Having waited for over 40 minutes because of persistent rain to get the game started the Bushrangers suffered a torrid start losing Glen Maxwell (0) and Brad Hodge (2) inside the first two overs, slumping to just 7-2.

Matthew Wade (9) quickly followed but the collapse was altered by Prior and Dwayne Bravo (22) who enjoyed a 4th wicket partnership of 61 thanks to some big hitting by Prior.

The Englishman smashed 5 fours and two massive sixes, one of which disappeared out of the ground off the bowling of Ryan ten Doeschate before he was caught by Jason Krejza off his own bowling at the end of 11th over to leave the Bushrangers 81-4.

With Prior gone the Tigers, who up until this point had been on the back foot hit back in fine style thanks to Krejza who removed Bravo and Rob Quiney (5) in his next over as the Vics suffered another collapse.

John Hasting (7) and Peter Siddle (0) quickly followed in the final over as the Bushrangers lost their last 5 wickets in the space of just 27 deliveries as the Tigers fought their way back into contention.
