The inaugural KFC Twenty20 Big Bash final on Saturday at the North Sydney Oval will feature some innovative entertainment as part of the history-making contest. Ball kids will also play a role for the first time at a domestic cricket match to help the fielding teams meet the time restrictions in place for Twenty20 cricket. A collection of girls from junior cricket development programs and teams will be on hand to help chase down the balls expected to sail over the rope during the final. In the six KFC Twenty20 Big Bash matches already played, a total of 135 ‘fours’ and 52 ‘sixes’ have been hit – an average of one big hit every four minutes of play. Nathan Bracken, who called for the introduction of ball kids after the KFC international Twenty20 match at the Gabba, is right behind the initiative. “With the time restrictions in place, having ball kids on the boundary will make a huge difference and should add to the colour, excitement and non-stop action associated with Twenty20 cricket.“ “It’s also a great opportunity for kids to get involved in the game and experience the fun associated with it,” he said. Renowned African drumming band ‘Kai Fech’ headline the entertainment scheduled for the final. |
