Chris Gaffaney hit the State Twenty20ís first century but the hundred was in vain as Central Stags recorded a six-wicket victory at Dunedinís University Oval.

State Otago Volts opener Gaffaney struck 101 off 57 balls as the hosts made 219 for four from their innings, after Blackcaps all-rounder and CD captain Jacob Oram put them into bat.

Nathan McCullum hit 52 from 27 and Jordan Sheed 37 off 20 in support of Gaffaney, who is also set to make his 100th State Shield appearance this weekend.

Blackcaps opener Jamie How capped the victory with 70 from 52 balls, after Ross Taylor led the Central reply with 66 from only 22 balls.

With an over to spare, Central reached their total for their first victory in the competition.
