Hurricanes prove too strong for the Sixes

The Hobart Hurricanes made it two wins out of two thanks to a 42 run victory over the Sydney Sixes at the Bellerive Oval to start this years KFC Big Bash League in fine style.

Phil Jaques (73) and Travis Brit (65) lead the way with a 2nd wicket stand of 107 before Naved-ul-Hasan (4-22) and Jason Krejza (2-20) tore through the Sixes batting line up to restrict the visitors to a total of just 127-9.

Having lost Jonathan Wells (17) early on, Jaques and Brit ensured the Hurricanes took control of the game thanks to their massive 2nd wicket stand which was only ended by Mitchell Starc (2-35) in the 18th over.

Jaques quickly followed in the final over before Owais Shah (8) hit a boundary from the penultimate delivery to help the Hurricanes recorded a total of 169-3.

With a tricky run chase ahead of them the Sixes lost Peter Nevill (3) and Michael Lumb (3) in quick succession early on to slide to just 7-2 after just 2.1 overs.

Nic Maddinson (33), Steven Smith (28) and Moises Henriques (22) offered the visitors some hope but with none of the three able to push on and score a big total the Sixers challenge started to fade.

With the tail exposed, wicket started to fall at regular intervals to leave the visitors facing their first defeat of the season as the Hurricanes moved to the top of the KFC Big Bash League group standings.
