Scorches prove to hot for the Heat to handle
The Perth Scorches got their KFC Big Bash League campaign back on track thanks to a comprehensive 10 run victory over the winless Brisbane Heat in a one sided match at the WACA.
Faced with a victory target of 163, the Heat slumped to a total of just 152-6 despite a good start thanks to Matthew Hayden (33) and skipper Peter Forrest (59) who lead the way after the early loss of Chris Lynn (4).
Despite the good start the Heat started to slip behind the required run rate as wickets started to fall after Forrest was bowled by Ben Edmondson (2-33) in the 8th over.
Big hitting Daniel Christian (9) and Roelof van der Merwe (6) offered little with the bat to leave Chris Hartley (4) and Michael Neser (11) too much to do during the closing few overs to leave the Heat facing a third straight defeat.
Having batted first the Scorches got off to a quick fire start thanks to Marcus North (40) and Herschelle Gibbs (38) who put on an opening stand of 80 before Biggs was bowled by Christian (2-27) in the 8th over.
North quickly followed, before Mitchell Marsh steadied the innings with a 21 ball 33, to put the home side in control at the half way point of the innings.
With a score of 200 a possibility the Heat fought their way back into the game by picking up the wicket of North before a mini collapse by the home side saw them slump from 122-2 to just 158-5 at the end of their innings.
