Hussey leads Stars to victory over the Renegades

A half century from David Hussey was enough to help the Melbourne Stars seal an 11 run Duckworth Lewis victory over the Melbourne Renegades in a rain effected match at the MCG.

Over 40,000 watched on as Hussey smashed 51 runs to lead the Stars to victory in the first ever match between the new city rivals in the first season of the KFC Big Bash League.

Matthew Wade (32), Luke Wright (25) and George Bailey (24) offered Hussey support as the Stars posted a total of 167-5 to leave the visiting Renegades facing a tricky victory target of 168.

With a good start crucial the Renegades lost opening batsman Aaron Finch from just the fourth delivery of the match when he was trapped LBW by Jackson Bird (1-17).

Brad Hodge (10) quickly followed and although Glenn Maxwell offered the visitors some hope with a quick fire 28 their chances of victory were sculpted by Shane Warne (1-4) who dismissed Maxwell in the 8th over.

With the Renegades on the back foot it was the turn of the rain to thwart their hopes with heavy rain which started to fall as Maxwell left the pitch much to the disappointment of the fans inside the MCG.

With no let up in the rain the umpires had no other option but to abandon the game with the victory being awarded to the Heat who were ahead on the Duckworth Lewis method.
