Starc leads Thunder to Duckworth Lewis victory
Mitchell Star picked up three wickets to help the Sydney Sixers record a rain affected, 17 run Duckworth Lewis victory over the Sydney Thunder in front of 30,000 fans at Stadium Australia in Sydney.
Faced with a victory target of just 118, the Thunder had slipped to just 29-4 before heavy rain forced the players off the pitch with 5.3 overs of the home sides run chase completed.
With no let up in the rain the umpires were left with no other option but to abandoned the game which handed a much needed victory to the Thunder who move up to third in the KFC Big Bash League group standings.
The victory was set up by Starc who tore through the Thunder’s top order picking up the wickets of Daniel Smith (0), Ben Dunk (0) and Jason Floros (15) to put the Thunder on the back foot before the rain ended the game.
Having batted first, the Sixers recorded a below par total of 117-7 after they suffered their own batting woes. The home side were rescued in part by Ben Rohrer who hit a quick fore 38 during a 6th wicket stand of 48 with Peter Nevill (24).
