Scorches maintain the pressure on the Hurricanes
The Perth Scorches kept the pressure on the Hobart Hurricanes at the top of the KFC Big Bash League thanks to a 42 run victory over the Adelaide Strikers in front of almost 15,000 fans at the WACA.
The Scorches won their fourth straight game to move level on points with the Hurricanes thanks to another impressive performance with the bat from Herschelle Gibbs and Marcus North.
The pair shared a devastating opening stand of 102 which came from just 11.2 overs, to put the home side firmly in control against a Strikers bowling attack which looked shaky thought the innings.
North lead the way smashing 70 runs but Gibbs (65) close behind as the pair helped the Scorches post a formidable total of 184-5 with cameos from Paul Collingwood (18) and Simon Katich (15) later in the innings.
Faced with such a big run chase the Strikers got off to a good start which saw Daniel Harris (31) and Michael Klinger (32) share an opening stand of 48 before Harris was bowled by Ben Edmondson in the 5th over.
Klinger quickly followed and with wickets falling at regular intervals the Strikers were restricted to a total of just 142 to suffer another defeat, their third of the tournament.
