Slumping Strikers blown away by rampant Sixers
The Adelaide Strikers hopes of reaching the KFC Big Bash League semi finals suffered a major blow after they slumped to 64 run defeat against the Sydney Sixers at the Adelaide Oval.
Having lost three games already, the home side collapsed in spectacular style in their attempts to chase down the Sixers total of 151-8 after they were bowled out for just 87 with almost two overs to spare.
The innings got off to the worst possible start thanks to Bret Lee (2-17) who dismissed opener Michael Klinger (0) with just the second ball of the Strikers run chase.
Aiden Blizzard offered some hope with a quick fire 27 but with wickets falling at regular intervals the home side collapse in spectacular style thanks to some impressive bowling from Stuart MacGill (2-12) and Steve O’Keefe (3-20).
Having batted first the Sixers lost Michael Lumb (8) early on but Moises Henriques (42) and Nic Maddinson (31) put the visitors on top thanks to a 2nd wicket stand of 49 before Maddinson was dismissed by Daniel Salpietro (1-28) in the 8th over.
Nathan McCullum (20) and Ben Rohrer (16) enjoyed constructive cameo’s to help the Sixers post a competitive total before the visitors bowlers took centre stage to strengthen their chances of securing a semi final spot.
