Ruthless Scorches seal home semi final
The Perth Scorches became the first team to seal their place in the KFC Big Bash League semi finals after a comprehensive nine wicket victory over the Sydney Thunder at Stadium Australia in Sydney.
The Scorches were in ruthless form as they sealed their fifth straight victory after bowling the Thunder out for a total of just 99 with Nathan Coulter-Nile (3-9) and Brad Hogg (2-8) leading the way with the ball.
Tim Armstrong (25) and Chris Gayle (20) offered the most resistant’s but with wickets falling at regular intervals the home side were unable to maintain any partnerships as they slipped to a disappointing total.
Despite the loss of Luke Ronchi in the opening over, the Scorches cruised to victory thanks to a 2nd wicket stand of 103 between Marcus North (38) and Mitchell Marsh (64).
Marsh lead the way with a well deserved half century which included one boundary and five sixes to help the visitors make light work of the Thunders below par total.
