Thunder blown away by intense Heat
The Sydney Thunderís hopes of reaching the KFC Big Bash semi finals were blown away by the Brisbane Heat who cruised to a comprehensive 91 run victory at the Gabba to move up to fourth in the group table.
The Heat won their third straight match to leap frog above the Melbourne Stars and the Adelaide Strikers thanks to the manner of victory which drastically improves their chances of finishing in the top four.
With three group games remaining the Heat will be hoping the Melbourne Renegades lose against the Hobart Hurricanes tomorrow and for the Stars to lose a close match against the Strikers.
If both results go their way the Heat will seal the final spot in the semi finals which will be quite remarkable considering they lost their first four group games by considerable margins.
Daniel Christian lead the way for the home side with a quick fire 75 from just 47 deliveries to help the Heat recover after the early loss of Brendon McCullum (6) and Matthew Hayden (60).
Christian smashed five boundaries and four sixes to help the Heat post a total of 195-5 with support coming from Chris Lynn (37), Peter Forrest (33) and Andrew Robinson (25).
Faced with a massive total the Thunder lost their way early on and never recovered despite a spirited 37 from opener Usman Khawaja who watched on as the top order collapse in spectacular style as the visitors slumped to just 34-5.
Khawaja, Matthew Day (29) and Sean Abbott offered some resistantís but it wasnít enough to stop the Thunder from losing their fifth straight game.
