Ruthless Scorchers crush the winless Thunder
The Perth Scorchers strengthened their chances of securing a place in the Big Bash semi-finals thanks to a crushing nine wicket victory over the winless Sydney Thunder at the WACA in Perth.
Faced with a run chase of just 114, Sean Marsh (56) and Marcus North (39) led the home side to victory with 40 balls to spare despite the early loss of Herschelle Gibbs (6) in the second over.
It proved to be another disappointing day for the Thunder who suffered their seventh straight defeat after they were restricted to a total of just 113-9 after Chris Gayle won the toss and elected to bat first.
With Gayle (2) and the rest of the Thunder failing yet again with the bat it was left to Usman Khawaja (56) to offer some resistant’s with a well-deserved half century but even that wasn’t enough to stop an inform Marsh and North.
