Hales blitz helps Renegades cruise to victory
Alex Hales stunned the Sydney Sixers with a devastating innings to help the Melbourne Renegades cruise to a 29 run victory over the defending champions at the SCG in Sydney.
Hales, who only arrived in Australia this morning after a flight from the UK, smashed 89 runs from just 52 balls which included five boundaries and eight sixes, for of which came off just one over bowled by Steve O’Keefe (0-50).
At one point in his innings Hales had faced 11 balls and had scored just three runs before his blitz lifted the Renegades to a total of 178-5 with a little help from Ben Rohrer (57).
Thanks to Hales the Sixers needed to chase down the Renegades victory target of 179 inside 12 overs to stand any chance of reaching the semi finals because of their poor run rate.
But with wickets falling at regular intervals the defending champions stumbled out of the tournament after they were bowled out for 149 to leave them second bottom in the Big Bash League.
