Daredevils set Challengers a target of 139
Anil Kumble led from the front by grabbing three wickets as Royal Challengers Bangalore restricted Delhi Daredevils to a modest 138 for six in a Champions League Super Eight match here today.
Kumble, who celebrated his 39th birthday today, removed Tillakaratne Dilshan, Dinesh Karthik and Owais Shah while conceding 20 runs from his four overs in the League B match.
The Bangalore captain was instrumental in putting brakes on Delhi Daredevils who were on to a rollicking start and were at 79 for two at the midway mark.
For Delhi, Virender Sehwag top-scored with an explosive innings of 47 which he made from 29 balls with the help of four fours and a six. Dilshan contributed 20.
Bangalore were out of contention for a semi-final berth after Cape Cobras beat Victoria Bushrangers in another League B match earlier in the day and home team skipper Kumble inserted Delhi in after winning the toss at Chinnaswamy Stadium.
But Delhi openers Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir were intent to make Kumble pay for his decision by hitting a torrent of boundaries in the first five overs in the match which got its full quota of 20 overs after the first game was reduced to 17-over-a-side affair due to a bomb scare.
The Delhi duo struck seven fours in the first five overs to take the score to 47 for no loss with Sehwag, who hit three consecutive boundaries off Praveen Kumar, contributing 31 runs.
