Wayamba claim Sri Lanka Twenty20 title

The Wayamba Elevens won the Sri Lankan Inter-Provincial Twenty20 Cup beating Ruhuna by 95 runs in a side sided game at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo.

The victory for Wayamba sees them return to the Twenty20 Champions League as Sri Lankas only representative in September.

Wayamba, who won last years Inter-Provincial competition easily cruised to victory thanks to a stunning knock of 91 from opener Mahela Jayawardene.

The Sri Lanka International smashed 6 sixes in his imprssive innings of just 49 balls.

Jayawardene was supported by Jeevantha Kulatunga as the pair built an opening partnership of 89 runs to help Wayamba reach 208/8.

In reply Ruhuna had reached 77-2 before a batting collapse saw them bowled out for 133 with spinner Ajantha Mendis taking 4 wickets from 3.2 overs to seal the victory and a place in the Champions League.
