Chennai to host t20 Champions League final

The Champions League t20 Governing Council has confirmed the format and dates for this years tournament which will take place in India at the end of September.

The 10 team tournament will get under way at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on Friday September 23rd with the final taking place two weeks later at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, October 9th 2011.

The two grounds will also each host a semi final while the recently refurbished Eden Gardens in Kolkata will also stage some group games in the tournament.

Before the main tournament starts, a six team, three day qualifying competition will be played in Hyderabad, starting on Monday, September 19th which will decide the final three teams that will qualify for the main t20 Champions League.

The qualifying competition will involve the Kolkata Knight Riders, Trinidad and Tobago, the Auckland Aces and the winners of the up coming Sri Lanka Twenty20 competition.

Having missed out on last years event because it clashed with the end of the County Championship, two teams from England will also be included in the qualifying tournament.

The top three teams from the competition will join the Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians, West End Redbacks, Speed Blitz Blues, Chevrolet Warriors and the Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras in the 2011 t20 Champions League.

The ten teams will be divided into two groups of five with the top two sides from each group facing each other in the semi-finals in Chennai and Bangalore.
