West Indians cruise through to Group Stages
Trinidad and Tobago cruised into the t20 Champions League, thanks to a crushing 51 run victory over the Leicestershire Foxes who were blown away in a one sided match at the Rajiv Gandhi IC Stadium in Hyderabad. Faced with a victory target of 169, the defending Friends Life t20 Champions collapsed to a total of just 20-5 before, highly rated England hopeful, James Taylor speared his sides blushes with a well deserved half century. Ravi Rampul (4-14) lead the attack, picking up four wickets to help restrict the Foxes to a total of just 117-9 to end the English sides hopes of reaching the t20 Champions League group stages. Having won the toss, Trinidad and Tobago got off to a rampant start thanks to Lendl Simmons (67) and Adrian Barath (62) who shared an opening stand of 139 to put the Carribean side it total control. Harry Gurney (2-33) gave the Foxes hope by removing Simmons and Barath in quick succession before Darren Bravo (18) and Denesh Ramdin (11) added 29 runs during a 3rd wicket stand to help their side reach 168-2. The victory guarantees Trinidad and Tobago their place in the group stages while the Foxes will need to secure a large victory over the Ruhunu Elevens tomorrow afternoon if they are to have any hope of qualifying as the best runner up. |
