Trego leads Sabres to impressive victory

Peter Trego smashed an impressive half century to help the Somerset Sabres seal their place in the t20 Champions League group stages thanks to a 11 run victory over the Kolkata Knight Riders.

The 30 year old Englishman smashed nine boundaries before he was run out from the final delivery of the game to help the Sabres record an impressive total of 166-6.

Rolef van der Merwe (40) and Nick Compton (20) offered support to leave the Knight Riders facing a run chase of 167 to win the match or, more importantly a target of 153 to seal their own place in the group stages at the expanse of the Ruhunu Elevens.

The IPL franchise got off to a disastrous start losing Mavinder Bisla (8) and Jacques Kallis (11) inside the opening two overs before Ryan ten Doeschate (47) led the fight back.

With wickets falling at regular intervals the Dutchman held his nerve to steer his side through to the t20 Champions League group stages with two balls to spare as the Knight Riders reached their target of 153 in the final over.
