Smith and Rohrer star for the Blues
The New South Wales Blues kept the hopes of reaching the t20 Champions League semi finals alive thanks to a thrilling five wicket victory over the Mumbai Indians in a lower scoring match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Having restricted the Indians to a total of just 100-7, the Blues started their run chase confidently before a top order collapse saw them slide to just 28-5 after 6.2 overs.
With the pressure mounting Steven Smith (41) and Ben Rohrer (25) held their nerve to build a sixth wicket stand of 73 from 63 deliveries to seal victory with 18 balls to spare.
The defeat leaves the Indians top of Group A with five points from their four games but they’ll be left hoping the Blues, Cape Cobras and Super Kings drop points in order for them to qualify.
Having won the toss the Indians suffered a torrid time with the bat and were indebted t James Franklin who scored an import 42 to life the IPL franchise after they had slumped to just 50-5 in the 12th over.
