Gayle force seals Royal Challengers victory
Chris Gayle smashed a quick fire 86 to help the Royal Challengers Bangalore kick start their disappointing campaign thanks to a 51 run victory over the Somerset Sabres at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
The West Indian smashed four boundaries and eight sixes to help the Royal Challengers record an impressive total of 206-6 with support coming from Virat Kohli (33) and Tillakaratne Dilshan (23).
The victory leaves the IPL franchise rooted to the bottom of Group B but they will still be able to qualify for the semi finals should the Sabres and West End Redbacks lose their final group games.
Despite the heavy defeat the Sabres will still be able to qualify for the semi finals should they beat the table topping Chevrolet Warriors on Wednesday afternoon.
Faced with a mammoth run chase the Sabres struggled to keep up with the required running rate after they were restricted to a total of just 154-6.
Peter Trego (58) offered the Sabres some hope with an impressive half century but with wickets falling at regular intervals the Royal Challengers cruised to victory.
