Yorkshire and Aces start tournament with wins
Yorkshire Carnegie and the Auckland Aces kick started the t20 Champions League with victories as the fourth edition of the tournament gets under way in South Africa.
With the t20 World Cup final still fresh in everybody’s minds the tournament got under way in a subdued, almost empty Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg with the first two games from the qualifying pools.
Yorkshire got the tournament under way with a five wicket victory over Sri Lankan t20 champions Uva Next thanks in part to a quick fire 39 from David Miller who help the English side chase down a total of 150-7 with three balls to spare.
The second game of the day saw the Auckland Aces create a piece of history as they became the first time from New Zealand to win a game in the four year history of the tournament.
Having been set a total of 130-9 to chase down by Sialkot Stallions, the Aces cruised to victory with 17 balls to spares thanks to cameos from Martin Guptill (40) and Anaru Kitchen (33).
