Indians title defence starts with 8 wicket defeat

The Mumbai Indians defence of their t20 Champions League title started with a stuttering eight wicket defeat against the bizhub Highveld Lions at the Wanderers in Johanesburg.

Having posted a total of 157-6 the Indians reduced the Lions to a total of 37-2 after 6.5 overs but a 3rd wicket stand of 121 by Neil McKenzie (68) and Quinton de Kock (51) help the South Africans seal victory.

McKenzie led the way smashing twelve boundaries to ensure the Indians would be the second IPL franchise to suffer defeat at the Wanderers on Sunday afternoon.

The first game of the day saw the Sydney Sixers seal a 14 run victory of the Chennai Super Kings who failed to chase down the Big Bash champions total of 185-5.

Moises Henriques led the way smashing 49 runs from just 22 balls before the all rounder picked up three wicket to help restrict the Super Kings to a total of just 171-9.
