Kent beat Essex by three runs in a game reduced to 10.1 overs at Canterbury.

Kent were 44-1 after 5.1 overs, with Tony Palladino clean bowling Joe Denly for 17 and Rob Key 21 not out, when a torrential downpour began.

After two hours without play, Essex were set 50 to win from five overs under the Duckworth-Lewis method.

Grant Flower hit 20 and James Foster 11, but Ryan McLaren took two for three in his over and Yasir Arafat picked up two as Essex fell short on 46-6.
