Sussex's James Kirtley picked up three wickets in the final over to ensure his side qualified for the quarter-finals of the Twenty20 Cup with a five-run victory over Surrey Brown Caps.
The visitors scored a superb 65 for three in a match reduced to five overs a side after rain delayed the start until 7.40pm as Chris Nash scored 24 off nine balls and captain Chris Adams hit 19 from eight.
It was then the turn of Kirtley to snap up the wickets of Azhar Mahmood (22), Mark Ramprakash (13) and Mark Butcher (nought) as the Sharks moved to the top of the table.
After James Benning had smashed the first ball to the square leg boundary, partner Alistair Brown joined in with a couple of mighty blows before he was stupidly run out for 11 following a brilliant throw from Rana Naved.
The introduction of Mushtaq Ahmed saw the dismissals of Benning and Rikki Clarke, clean bowled for one after being deceived by the flight from the Pakistan leg-spinner.
Both Azhar and Ramprakash nearly saw the Brown Caps home, clubbing some huge sixes before Kirtley sent the Sharks to their first quarter-final.
Earlier, Sussex's innings had begun badly when Luke Wright was dismissed without scoring in the first over.
Chris Schofield was called into the attack and with his second ball took the wicket of dangerman Murray Goodwin for five, Stewart Walters taking a superb diving catch on the midwicket boundary.
Adams steered his side to 27 before departing, his innings including two fours and a six over square leg off the bowling of Clarke.
The win leaves Sussex on nine points and at the top of the table with Surrey still needing to avoid defeat against Kent on Friday to qualify for the next stage.
