Gidman joy as Glos get home draw

Alex Gidman hailed Gloucestershire's team ethic after leading the county to the quarter-finals of the Twenty20 Cup in Bristol.

Gloucestershire produced a strong all-round performance to prevail by six wickets against Glamorgan.

It was a result that confirmed their position as runners-up behind Warwickshire in the Midland/Wales and West Division.

The win guaranteed Gloucestershire a home tie in the last eight by being the best-placed runner-up in any of the three divisions. And the county will now host Worcestershire Royals on July 17 or 18.

Gidman welcomed the draw, which pits his side against opponents who were twice beaten in the qualifying group.

Gidman said: "We weren't really bothered who we drew just so long as we had home advantage. We fancy our chances against anyone on the pitches at Bristol. I wouldn't read too much into our previous results against Worcestershire because this is an all together differrent set of circumstances.

"This is a one-off knockout game and they will be out for revenge."

Reflecting on the win over Glamorgan, Gidman said: "I couldn't ask for anything more. This was a superb team performance and everyone contributed.

"This competition is not just about great individual displays, it's about blokes chipping in and doing their bit.

"That's something we pride ourselves on at Gloucestershire and we did it really well in this game.

"One look at the scorebook is enough to tell you this was a real team effort.

"The batters, bowlers and fielders all did their bit and I'm absolutely delighted we're through to the knockout stages."

Gloucestershire next take on Northamptonshire in a County Championship Division Two match, which starts at Wantage Road tomorrow. Seamer Steve Kirby and opening batsman Craig Spearman are expected to return to the side after recovering from injury.

But head coach Mark Alleyne is still undecided between wicketkeepers Steve Adshead and Steve Snell.
