Yorkshire target Twenty20 glory

As the County Championship takes a back seat, the Twenty20 competition takes over for the next three weeks and Yorkshire, Derbyshire and Notts are all in the six team North section.

Derbyshire kick it off today when they meet Durham at the Riverside and tomorrow comes Yorkshire's entrance into the competition when they face Derbyshire at Headingley.

Then the duo clash again on Sunday at Chesterfield (2.30pm) in front of what is likely to be a sell-out, 5,000 crowd at Queen's Park.

Before then, however, Yorkshire entertain Notts at Headingley on Friday while Derbyshire take on Lancashire under the lights at the County Ground at Derby, both on Friday. Leicestershire make up the six team group.

Michael Vaughan - not involved in England's one-day series with New Zealand which starts on Friday with a Twenty20 match - is available for Yorkshire's Twenty20 programme.

The short form of the game is really taking off now and a huge incentive for this season's finalists is that they will gain admission to the lucrative eight team Champions League tournament along with teams from Australia, India and South Africa.

Big crowds are assured at all the games and it isn't just the spectators who enjoy the music, the atmosphere, the fun factor and all the razzmatazz the competition brings because the players revel in it too.

Yorkshire, who have never made the four-team finals day, go into the competition as County Championship leaders following the excellent win over Somerset - their first defeat at home for two years.

Derbyshire will be protecting an unbeaten home record in all competitions under their new skipper Rikki Clarke.
