Foxes face huge test of character

Leicestershire Foxes head coach Tim Boon says his side face a huge test of character in their faltering Twenty20 Cup campaign after yesterday's defeat by Lancashire.

The former County batsman watched his side suffer a third consecutive reverse in a 37-run verdict at Old Trafford.

With Yorkshire arriving at Grace Road tomorrow, Boon says his side must improve their game in a hurry if they are to have a hope of qualifying for the quarter-finals.

"We are pushing uphill now and we have to do something about that very quickly,'' said Boon. "We need to be more consistent. It's as simple as that.

"It's a test of character for us now but you don't become a bad team overnight.

"When we look back to previous Twenty20s, the sort of bowling that we have had has suited our Twenty20 cricket.

"Our bowling at the minute is more of a wicket-taking unit and that may include a higher percentage of boundary balls as well as wicket-taking balls.

"We need to be more consistent and we need to put the ball in good areas. They are anything that the batsman doesn't expect and that may be a yorker, a throat ball or a slower ball wide of off stump.

"We have done extensive homework with bowlers saying this is their ideal ball. But players have to implement ideas and we haven't done that well enough so far. That's why we have lost three games."

Boon said that the squad were keen to turn things around when they play their fourth game in the North Division tomorrow evening at Grace Road.

"We are down because we have lost but it's not the end of the world," he said. "We are going to bounce back. We are going to find some runs and wickets."
