Andrew Flintoff could play for Lancashire in tonight's crucial Twenty20 Cup Roses clash with Yorkshire at Old Trafford.

The big all-rounder warmed up for his comeback match for the second XI with a game of football before making his bid for a place in the team to face the Tykes with a storming half-century.

The all-rounder launched into a volley in the kickaround, but it was the volley of shots which cannoned around the Alderley Edge ground - including ten fours and a six - which mattered most. He powered one maximum out of the ground to bring up his fifty, and almost broke the pavilion window with a crisply struck boundary as he made 56.

Freddie was returning from a left side strain suffered in a County Championship match last month and Lancashire captain Stuart Law confirmed that the star all-rounder could play tonight.

Cricket manager Mike Watkinson last night met with Freddie's physio Dave Roberts to check everything was fine.
