Northants stand firm on Kolpac stars

Northamptonshire chief executive Mark Tagg has hit back at Jon Lewis' criticism of his club's selection policy.

Lewis voiced his opinion about the Steelbacks decision to field so many Kolpac players in their side, with six South Africans lining up against Glamorgan on Sunday.

Lewis was part of the Gloucestershire side beaten by Northants during the current Twenty20 tournament and he said it was disappointing to see Monty Panesar left out of the side, while overseas players filled the team for just a couple of weeks.

But Tagg believes it is the county's choice who they pick to play and the fans does not care about the nationality of their heroes.

"The fans don't give a monkey's where their players are from," he said. "They just want to see their team winning."
