Middlesex have asked Surrey if they can use The Oval for their Twenty20 Cup quarter-final as their own ground will be preparing to host a Test match.

The Crusaders' tie will be played between 7-9 July, but Lord's hosts England v South Africa on 10 July.

Middlesex chief executive Vinny Codrington told BBC London 94.9: "We've investigated the options and Uxbridge was one, The Oval was another.

"The Oval is looking favourite but we have yet to conclude any deal."

Middlesex booked a home quarter-final place after their six-wicket victory at Sussex on Wednesday helped them win the South Division.

But with Lord's unavailable to host the last-eight match , Codrington is keen to choose an alternative venue which will cause as little disruption as possible to the team and the fans.

He added: "The players are keen to play at the Oval and it's beneficial to our members who would get to see the game for no cost."
