The Northamptonshire Steelbacks ended their Twenty20 Cup group campaign with a 13-run win at the Warwickshire Bears.
Nicky Boje's team had already secured their place in quarter-finals, but could have secured a home tie if other results had gone their way.
Unfortunately Essex beating Hampshire means Northants miss out on run-rate.
The Steelbacks gave themselves a chance by inflicting Warwickshire's first defeat of this summer's Twenty20 Cup campaign.
Nortants posted a total of 137 for eight with David Sales top-scoring with 42 off 37 balls, including two huge sixes, and Niall O'Brien hitting 39.
Moulton boy Ian Salisbury finished with three for 14 off his four overs.
But the Northants bowling attack bettered that effort with overseas seamer Johann Louw crucially getting rid of Neil Carter early on.
Louw went on to get two for 21 off his four overs as Warwickshire never got going thanks to three superb run outs.
Warwickshire finished well short of the 139-run target on 124 for eight.
