For the first time in the competition's history, a bowl-out decided the winners as Surrey reached the Twenty20 Cup semi-finals at Warwickshire's expense.
Needing 118 to win in 15 overs after an early break for rain, Warwickshire finished on 117-8, having lost the same number of wickets as Surrey.
That meant that the players had to use cricket's version of the penalty shoot-out to choose a winner.
And that even went to sudden death before Tim Murtagh hit the stumps.
In the cricket proper, Mark Ramprakash, batting down at seven, gave Surrey a moderate total of 149-8 to defend after the top order had failed to get going.
Jon Trott took 2-19 in his four overs.
Warwickshire lost two early wickets in their run chase before the break for rain.
The best individual score for Warwickshire was Jim Troughton's 21 as the wickets continued to tumble.
And when Dewald Pretorius hit two runs off the final ball, the bowl-out was the only way to pick a winner.
