Graeme Smith believes he will return to South Africa a better player for his experience of English Twenty20 cricket.

The South Africa captain played the starring role on Saturday, hitting an unbeaten 64 to guide Somerset to a surprise seven-wicket win over favourites Lancashire in the Twenty20 Cup final at The Oval.

It was Smith's last act before flying home to prepare for South Africa's next assignments against New Zealand and Australia, but he said: "My game has benefited from being here. From a batting point of view I've felt like Twenty20 has benefited my game."

He added: "I've found new shots, I've been able to hit the ball out of the ground - something I've never really done before in international cricket or domestic cricket back home.

"I've found a new type of game working over here on some good wickets.

"It has been fantastic to finish off and see the guys play so well in the last day of the Twenty20."
