Darren Maddy hit an impressive 88 from just 46 balls to steer the Warwickshire Bears to a commanding 8 wicket victory over the Northants Steelbacks at Edgbaston.
Set a target of 148; the Bears made light work of the run chase with the winning runs being scored with over 5 overs remaining.
After Neil Carter (12) was run out by Nick Boje in the third over; Maddy took control of the game smashing 11 fours and 6 sixes in 2nd wicket partnership of 116 with Jim Troughton.
Although Maddy was denied an impressive century by Lee Daggett the openers fireworks ensured the bears cruised comprehensive victory.
Earlier Mal Loye hit a classy half century for the Steelbacks who batted first after winning the toss.
The Steelbacks; who were beaten by the Sussex Sharks in last years Twenty20 Cup semi finals reached a total of just 147-5 despite Loye’s innings thanks to Imran Tahir who picked up 3 wickets.
The spinner was in impressive form conceding just 14 runs from his four overs to slow the Steelbacks down after Loye and Niall O’Brien (29) shared an opening stand of 65.
