The Sussex Sharks cruised to a 28 run victory over the Middlesex Panthers at Lord to start their title defence with back to back victories.
Dwayne Smith and Michael Yardy shared a vital partnership of 84 to rescue the Sussex Sharks after they had been reduced to just 33-4 against the Middlesex Panthers.
Using the same wicket which was used during the recently concluded test match between England and Bangladesh; the Sharks struggled losing 4 wickets inside the first 7 overs as they struggled to get going.
Luke Wright (4), Murray Goodwin (11), Chris Nash and Ed Joyce (7) all failed to contribute with the bat before Smith and Yardy came to the crease to steady the ship.
Their partnership was vital and although Smith (49) just missed out on his half century the pair made sure the defending champs reach a competitive total of 146-6.
In reply the Panthers never troubled the Sharks with only Neil Dexter (27) offering any sort of resistant’s after Aussies wicket keeper Adam Gilchrist was dismissed for just 2 by Yasir Arafat.
