The Surrey Lions middle order suffered a dramatic collapse at the Brit Oval to hand an easy 39 run victory to the Sussex Sharks who strengthen their place at the top of the South Group.
Set a total of 159 for victory the Lions were well placed thanks to Rory Hamilton-Brown (24) and Steve Davis (35) who shared an opening stand of 38 before Hamilton-Brown was dismissed by James Kirtley.
Davis and Mark Ramprakash (8) added another 19 runs for the second wicket but when Ramprakash was dismissed in the 7th over the Lions middle order collapsed.
Andrew Symonds (1), Davies, Younis Khan (11), Stewart Walters (10) and Gareth Batty (3) offered no resistant’s as the defending champs increased the pressure to cruise to victory.
Having been put into bat by the home side the Sharks reached 158-7 with Brendan McCullum (34). Murray Goodwin (28) and Chris Nash (32) top scoring.
