The Somerset Sabres cruised to a 7 wicket victory over the Sussex Sharks to move up into second place in the Friends Provident t20 South group.
The victory for the Sabres see’s them move within 6 points of the defending champions who lost just their second game in this year’s tournament.
Set a total of 160 for victory the Sabres were inspired by skipper Marcus Trescothick (50) who smashed a 33 ball half century after opening partners Nick Compton was bowled by Chad Keegan from the very first ball of the home sides reply.
With support coming from Peter Trego (41) the Sabres cruised to victory.
Having been point into bat by the Sabres the defending champs started off on fire thanks to a quick fire 36 from Matt Prior who last just 13 delivers before he was dismissed by Alfonso Thomas in just the 4th over.
With Prior gone the Sharks lost 5 quick wickets in the space of 2 overs.
Although Chris Nash added a vital 44 runs the Sharks total was way below the average score at the batsman Friends County Ground in Taunton.
