Styris century seals thrilling victory for Eagles

Scott Styris smashed an unbelievable 49 ball century to steer the Essex Eagles to a stunning 6 wicket victory over a shell shocked Surrey Lions teams.

With 6 delivers remaining the Eagles needed another 22 runs, and with all hope seemingly gone Styris stole the show by smashing Andrew Symonds for 22 runs from just 5 balls capping a dramatic fight back by smashing a six to seal the victory.

Having reached his half century from 32 balls the Kiwi took just 17 balls to seal an amazing turnaround and keep the Eagles hopes of reaching the Friends Provident t20 quarter finals alive.

Set a total of 188 for victory the Eagles got off to a slow start and looked on course for a heavy defeat until Styris (106) came to the crease.

Earlier, having been put into bat by the Eagles, Steve Davis scored a wonderful 89 to help the Lions reach 187. With support from Mark Ramprakash (35) the Lions would have felt comfortable defending a competitive total.
