The Northamptonshire Steelbacks kept their hopes of reaching the Friends Provident t20 quarter finals alive thanks to a 30 run victory over the Durham Dynamos at the County Ground in Northampton.
Having suffered an embarrassing loss against the Worcestershire Royals last night the Steelbacks bounced back with an impressive victory which moves them up into 5th position in the North group.
Having won the toss the Steelbacks batted first and reached a total of 164-5 with Sri Lankan all rounder Chaminda Vaas top scoring with an impressive 73.
Having reovered from losing David Sales from the first delivery of the day Vass and Niall O’Brien shared a second wicket partnership of 91 to put the home side in control.
Eric Chigumbura (10), Nicky Boje (12) and Alex Wakely (12) added vital runs to give the Steelbacks a competitive total to defend.
Faced with a target of 165 for victory the Dynamos run chase got off to the worst possible start when Vaas dismissed Phil Mustard with the first delivery of the innings.
Despite the early lose; Ian Blackwell (16), Ross Taylor (24) and Dale Benkenstein (24) kept the visitors in the game but no batsman went on to score a big total as the Dynamos lost wickets at regular intervals to slip to a 30 run defeat.
