The Warwickshire Bears claimed a vital 6 wicket victory over the Northants Steelbacks to put them in pole position to claim a home quarter final in the knock out stages of the Friends Provident t20.

Faced with a total of 147 to chase the Bears claimed victory with 11 balls to spare thanks to Ian West Wood (24) and Tim Ambrose who enjoyed a vital 5th wicket partnership of 54 after the visitors had been reduced to 93-4 at the start of the 10th over.

The pair came together after Eric Chigumbura picked up three wickets in the space of four balls to dismiss Darren Maddy (30), Keith Barker (46) and Jim Troughton to leave the home side on top before Westwood and Ambrose’s winning partnership.

Having won the toss the Steelbacks batted first and were thankful to Stephen Peters (39) and Alex Wakely (41) who shared a 4th wicket partnership of 77 to help the home side reach 146-5.
