Royals stay on course for quarter finals

The Hampshire clinched a vital 6 wicket victory over the Middlesex Panthers to keep alive their hopes of reaching the knock out stages of the Friends Provident t20.

The Royals successfully chased down a target of 165 with 8 balls to spare thanks to Jimmy Adams (64) and Michael Carberry (41) who started the run chase with a 89 run opening partnership.

Despite losing Carberry, who was dismissed by Owais Shah in the 9th over, Adams and James Vince pushed the Royals towards victory with a quick fire 2nd wicket partnership of 49.

The pair were both dismissed by Gareth Berg in the 15th over but Sean Ervine (17) and Neil McKenzie (1) saw the visitors home after Abdul Razzaq (6) was run out.

The victory for the Royals see’s them move to within 2 points of the Somerset Sabres and Essex Eagles in joint second place in the South group.

Having batted first the Panthers suffered a torrid time against the Royals bowlers’ who restricted the home side to a total of just 164-7 despite a disciplined innings from Shah (80).
