Falcons on hold to surprise Lightning

Aaron Moores | cricket20

The Derbyshire Falcons held on to secure a vital 7 run victory over the Lancashire Lightning to keep their faint hopes of a place in the Friends Provident t20 quarter finals alive.

Having been set a target of 164 for victory the Lightning came up just short despite a fine innings from Tom Smith (38) before he was run out by Jonathan Clare in the 10th over with the home side on course for victory.

With Smith gone the Lightning continued to lose wickets at regular intervals to slip to a shock defeat which leaves them unlikely to secure a home quarter final tie.

Having batted first Loots Bosman (29) and Wes Durston (39) got the Falcons off to a great start before Wayne Madsen (29) and Robin Peterson saw the visitors to a competitive total of 163-6.
