South African t20 skipper Johan Botha picked up four wickets to help the Northamptonshire Steelbacks claim a 40 run victory over the Warwickshire Bears at Edgbaston.
Botha (16-4) tore through the Bears top order, conceding just 16 runs from his four overs to leave them 55-1 after 9.2 overs in their pursuit of the Steelbacks victory target of 151.
With the Bears to order back in the dug out, Tim Ambrose offered the home side hope scoring 25 runs but once he was dismissed by Andrew Hall, the home side’s lower order collapses to a total of just 110.
Having been put into bat the Steelbacks posted a total of 150-8 thanks in no small part to David Willey (22) and Jack Brooks (33) who recorded a vital 8th wicket stand of 59 after the visitor’s had been reduced to a total of just 91-8.
Up until then the Bears had been in complete control of the game after impressive bowling displays from Jeetan Patel (19-3) and Steffan Piolet (25-3).
Having won their first two games the Bears collapsed to a spectacular defeat as the Steelbacks recorded their first victory in this years tournament after they suffered defeat against the Leicestershire Foxes on Friday night.
