The Somerset Sabres cruised to a comprehensive 40 run victory over the Middlesex Panthers after Craig Kieswetter and Roelof van der Merwe launched a stunning blitz at the County Ground in Taunton.
Having won the toss, Kieswetter and van der Merwe smashed quick fire half centuries to help the home side post a mammoth total of 235-5 which left the Panthers facing an up hill challenge.
Kieswetter led the way smashing eleven boundaries and two sixes during a 22 ball blitz which saw him score 59 runs before he was bowled by Steven Cook at the end of the 6th over.
Despite the loss van der Merwe continued to increase the pressure on the Panthers with his own half century which included two boundaries and five sixes before he was dismissed in the 12th over by Anthony Ireland.
The runs continued to flow thanks to James Hildreth (35), Peter Trego (31) and Arul Suppiah (23) as the Sabres cruised along at over 11 runs an over.
Faced with a mammoth run chase the Panthers got off to a disappointing start which saw them lose Chris Rogers (5), Scott Newman (7) and Jamie Dalrymple (0) inside the opening 5 overs.
Despite the lose, Paul Stirling (34) and Neil Dexter (35) kept the visitors in contention but with wicket and overs running out the Panthers looked set for a massive defeat until John Simpson smashed 60 runs from just 27 deliveries.
The 22 year old dispatched seven boundaries and two sixes to help the Panthers reach 195-9 which was sill an amazing 40 runs short of the Sabres imposing total.
