The defending Friends Life t20 champions recorded their 5th straight victory thanks to a 9 run win over the Gloucestershire Gladiators at Archdeacon Meadow in Gloucester.

Having set the Gladiators a victory target of 166 the Hampshire Royals restricted the home side to a total of just 156-6 despite a cameo of 43 from Alex Gidman who smashed three boundaries and two sixes from just 25 deliveries.

Hamish Marshall (33) and Kane Williamson (28) got the Gladiators run chase off to the perfect start with a 2nd wicket stand of 47 after Kevin O’Brien (22) was bowled by Chris Wood in the 3rd over.

Once Marshall and Williamson were dismissed in quick succession by Dominic Cork and Danny Briggs at the mid way stage the Royals were able to restrict the Gladiators middle order as the home side came up just short.

Having batted first, the Royals recorded a total of 165-4 thanks to an outstanding innings from Neil McKenzie who smashed 89 runs from just 53 balls which included eleven boundaries and two sixes.

Jimmy Adams (22) and Sean Ervine (21) offer valuable support to leave the home side facing a tricky run chase which proved to be much for the Gladiators to chase down.
