Scott Newman held his nerve to help the Middlesex Panthers record a five wicket victory over the Sussex Sharks at the County Ground in Hove.
Newman (39) hit the winnings runs with one ball to spare top help the Panthers successfully chase down the Sharks victory target of 164 to record their first win in this year’s tournament.
With the game going to the wire, Newman and Ryan McLaren (1) remained calm, scoring the eight runs required to seal a thrilling victory.
Chris Rogers (46) and Steven Cook (29) offered support as the Sharks suffered their first lost to remain two points behind the Southern Group leaders, the Hampshire Royals.
Having won the toss, the Sharks batted first and recorded a total of 163-8 thanks in no small part to Luke Wright who scored 71 runs from just 45 balls to lead the way.
Despite Wright’s innings the Sharks struggled with the bat, which was highlighted by the fact that bowler, Naved-ul Hasan (19) ended the innings as the home sides second highest scorer after Neil Dexter (21-4) tore through the Sharks middle order.
