Sam Northest and Wahab Riaz launched a stunning six wicket blitz to help the Kent Spitfires seal a memorable six wicket victory over the Glamorgan Dragons at the SWALEC Stadium.
The pair smashed 66 runs from just 32 deliveries to snatch an unlikely victory after the Dragons had restricted the visitors to a total of just 89-4 at the start of the 15th over.
Northest (33) and Riaz (32) dispatched four boundaries and two sixes to seal the Spitfires first victory in this years Friends Life t20 tournament with two balls to spare.
Having batted first Alviro Petersen (65) smashed four boundaries and a six from 56 deliveries to help the home side reach a below par 154-5; having reached 122-1 in the 16th over the Dragons would have bee looking to set the Spitfires a run chase of over 170.
Mark Cosgrove (47) and Jim Allenby (28) offered support but once the top three had been removed the Spitfires slowly gain the momentum as the boundaries and runs dried up during the last few overs.
Faced with a smaller then expected run chase the visitors got off to a good start thanks to Joe Denly and Robert Key who shared an opening stand of 39 before Key (19) was dismissed by Robert Croft at the start of the 7th over.
Denly (24) quickly followed and although Darren Stevens (27) and Azhar Mahmood (15) started off bright neither was able to remain at the crease as the Spitfires looked on course for defeat before Riaz and Northeast stunned the Dragons.
